DWARKA! The land of love. The land of almighty Krishna!

Dwarka is one of the most prominent and historical cities of India situated along the Arabian sea in the northwestern Indian state of Gujarat.  Its one of the key Hindu pilgrimage sites being one of the four Chardhams and is  often identified with the Dwarka Kingdom, the ancient kingdom of Krishna.  According to legend, Krishna settled here after he defeated and killed his uncle Kansa at Mathura and conducted the administration of his kingdom from Dwarka while residing with his family in Bet Dwarka.

Situated on the western tip of Saurashtra, Gujarat, Dwarka holds historic significance in India. Commonly referred as ‘Devbhoomi Dwarka’, the city gloats being one of the Char Dhaam (four-blessed spots) and Sapta Puris (seven sacrosanct urban communities) as scripted in the Hindu scriptures. Dwarka is standing strong since the age of Krishna. Hence, it attracts a striking centrality pulling in numerous travellers throughout the year.

‘Dwarka’, the name signifies ‘dwar’ meaning entryway and ‘ka’ signifying moksha, which combines to an ‘entry in salvation’. During Hindu celebrations of Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna), Dwarka is lit with a huge number of sightseers immersed in ecstasy of this puranic celebration.

According to the holy book, it is accepted that after Lord Krishna passed on, there was a subsequent downfall in Yadav tradition. Legend has it that Dwarka was then inundated in the mighty waters of Arabian Sea due to a huge flood.

Be that as it may, present city of Dwarka is situated on the banks of river Gomti which opens into the Arabian Sea and is famous for the Dwarkadheesh temple, among other striking authenticities attract people from around the globe. It is accepted that Mirabai, Lord Krishna’s dedicated devotee, converged with his godlike sculpture in this sanctuary.
